ABOUT ME
Welcome to my page! I'm so excited you're here 😊
While you're here I want to begin by telling a little bit about myself. My name is Olivia Hanson and I grew up on a farm near a small town in the middle of Iowa. I loved growing up in the outdoors and the open space but always found myself drawn to the bright lights and big cities. Growing up, you could always find me reading magazines. I started out with magazines like J-14 and Tiger Beat, then shifted into Seventeen and Teen Vogue, and finally ended up reading magazines like Vogue, People, Harper's Bazaar, InStyle, Cosmopolitan, Elle, and everything in between. I loved how the magazines would transport me to a different place, giving me a glimpse into lifestyles that seemed so different from mine. I also loved reading about people and there stories, seeing the gorgeous imagery, and of course, what all of the celebrities were wearing! 💁♀️
So naturally when it came time for college, I selected journalism for a major and apparel, merchandising and design as a minor. While in college, I immersed myself into all of the relevant extracurricular activities I was passionate about. I was lifestyle editor at my college's fashion magazine, as well as a styling director for a semester, I started my own podcast interviewing all kinds of people in the fashion department. I also started my own television show capturing our college's fashion show and hosted the fashion show my senior year.
While in college, I also had two incredible internships that really helped to propel my career in the magazine / media industry. My first one was at Harper's Bazaar in their E-Commerce section of ShopBazaar in New York City. This internship was a dream come true and like a real small town girl takes the big city moment for me (think Sweet Home Alabama mixed with the Devil Wears Prada)! It was a true fashion internship – sitting in the fashion closet, photoshopping photos for the site, checking in clothing from designers, and running around the city for photoshoots. It was truly chef's kiss for a first internship! 🤌
My second internship at the (then) Meredith Corporation was as a Shop Editorial Intern on their E-Commerce team. As someone who loves and is completely obsessed with shopping, this was the absolute perfect internship for me. I got to write for their magazines like People, InStyle, Better Homes and Gardens, Real Simple and more. I also helped to merchandise their shop pages with imagery and copy, which was super fun.
I then got hired at the Meredith Corporation as a Shop Editorial Assistant! During my time there, I experienced my first acquisition as we were acquired by Dotdash and are now Dotdash Meredith. I still continued writing until I got hired as Campaign Manager on the Business Development team, helping to manage all of our retail campaigns 🛍️
After 3.5 years at Dotdash Meredith, I decieded to go freelancing full time! I love to spend all of my time writing about celebrities, fashion, beauty, home, trends, and products! 💄💗
I also now live in the Big Apple... aka New York City! 🍎 I adore the city, the energy, the people, the fashion, and all there is to do! There's truly nothing like it and I look forward to continuing to write the story of my life here... ✍️💖
